With great power comes great responsibility. This is an important reminder for every AI developer and regulator. We have the responsibility of harnessing this technology to ensure its used safely and responsibly.
The regulation of AI is a rapidly evolving field, and there are many different approaches being taken around the world. Some of the latest updates on how AI regulation is currently being applied include:
- The European Union is in the process of finalizing its Artificial Intelligence Act (AIA), which would be the first comprehensive regulation of AI in the world. The AIA would prohibit the use of AI for certain high-risk applications, such as social scoring and real-time biometric identification, and would require developers and users of AI systems to comply with certain transparency, accountability, and fairness requirements.
- The United States is also considering regulating AI, but there is no consensus on the best approach. Some proposals would focus on regulating specific applications of AI, such as autonomous vehicles, while others would take a more general approach.
- China has already implemented a number of regulations on AI, including a ban on the use of AI for facial recognition in public places without consent. China is also developing a national AI strategy that is expected to include further regulations.
These are just a few examples of how AI regulation is being applied in different countries. As AI technology continues to develop, it is likely that we will see more regulations being implemented around the world.
